I really want to try this game but it’s still so expensive. I’ve heard it’s worth it

Expensive? It’s $45 on Steam? I consider $45 for potentially hundreds of hours of entertainment to be extremely cheap.

It’s actually worth the price. I’m also a patient gamer; this is the only full price game I’ve bought since 2020ish. 120 hours to beat the main campaign once is already worth it. There’s actually substance to the hype around the game. The only full price game I’ll buy in the foreseeable future is Silksong.

It will still be good when it comes on sale. It is however one of the few games where I decided to get it at full price, and I didn’t regret it.

Yeah I’m going patient gamer with this one. Partially it’s because I’ve not enjoyed the combat in other Larian games, even the critically acclaimed D:OS2. More more of an old school RtwP fan like the original 2 Baldurs Gate games.

However I’m a huge RPG fan so I think the dynamism I’ve heard about in this one’s plot will win me over.

I was also a little turned off by DOS2, mainly because it felt like every decision was hugely pivotal to the story outcome, and sometimes it was nearly impossible to get the “good” outcome. BG3 is more forgiving, but is similar. There are more cutscenes, the story is better, and the audio effects on casting spells actually helped my enjoyment a lot. Someone bought the game for me and I really didn’t think I would like it, 200 hours later I’m a big fan.

Eldritch Blast really earned its name, I love the way the spell sounds in that game

I can’t remember what it sounds like, will have to fire it up! My favorite was Shadowheart healing. There’s a perfect amount of reverb and echo on it. Everything just sounds…powerful.

Funny how the added classes are the exact playstyle I wanted the first time around, kept that dude who can revive the dead as fungus zombies as long as possible, also wanted a spellsword

I have an ongoing lightside lore bard run that’s just entered act two. I’m very thankful that the devs added some official (if limited) mod support, because I can be confident now that my zillion cosmetic and interface mods won’t break my save forever with the new update. A had a two-thirds-through-act-three run with a gith storm sorc nearly a couple years ago that I left for a month or so and is all screwed up now with outdated mods.

Tripping over Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 when they were around $10 (I think) - and knowing nothing about them going into it - was awesome.

How many times has it been the final major update 💀

    In 2035:
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Baldur’s Gate XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Forgotten Realm Reborn and the award-winning Astralward expansion up to level 20 for free with no restrictions on playtime.

I mean that was different, they released a game that was in an awful state, apologised, took it down then released it again after changing almost everything, time skipped in the story and it’s spent the last 10 years getting improved. Most games either do well or flop, that was an exception because of the whole franchise reputation otherwise there’s no way they’d justify remaking it.

This particular final patch, the eighth major patch, is it. The contracts with Wizards of the Coast are expiring, which frees Larain Studios to work on different games.

While there will certainly be more games in the series, this particular one is effectively done.

I really need to finish this game. I got to the inn in the place with darkness (trying to be vague but also kinda forget) which I think is like the beginning of act II? Then life happened and I haven’t touched it since. I don’t remember anything, really, but I also kinda don’t want to start over. Oh well, it’s farming season so this will have to wait until winter anyway.

Yeah that’s act ii. If you just got there you’re probably near the beginning though technically it’s possible to do a bunch of other stuff first. In any case, you shouldn’t find it too difficult to jump back in - just check your journal to see which quests you have in progress. And if you’re considering going back to game it’s definitely worth it - the story really ramps up over acts 2 & 3.
