Israeli military posts in the occupied Golan Heights

Israel has expanded its illegal occupation of Syria’s Golan Heights, seizing parts of the UN-monitored buffer zone in breach of a 1974 agreement with Damascus. Since December 2024, it has pushed deeper into Syrian territory, forcing families from their homes, demolishing property and unlawfully transferring detainees to Israel in acts considered war

    So immediately after Assad fell they moved in to stay permanently with fortified bases, right next to the capital Damascus. The army which previously held the positions had to fall back due to instability, and the Russian bases are still in limbo there.

    Protection of the new Syrian state seems mainly a concern for the Turkish forces now, but their establishment as a security guarantor takes time, if it happens at all.

      Considering the current struggle session, why exactly would this be in the US’s interests if Jolani is already a puppet to Syria? Can anyone explain why they are still bombing Damascus? Surely the US already got what they wanted no? Very curious.

        I suppose they want to send a message to Turkey. This is not about Syria directly, but about Turkeys ambitions in Syria. The protector of the Syrian state changed, previously Russia guarded the border region with a military base, now they are gone and Turkey wants to step in. Turkish Military advisors are already present in Damascus afaik. I consider Turkey to be the strongest military force in the region, stronger than Egypt; Irans route is basically cut off through Iraq and Northern Syria now; Israel and the US do not want to have them closer.

        Also this is about the Situation in Lebanon right next to the Golan heights, where Israel operates drones and wants to act undisturbed by outside interference.
