Getting vaccinated for COVID last year was such a ridiculous experience for me. I think it took like 4 attempts.

First time I tried, there was a shortage and I was told it wasn’t available in our area. Second time I went to a walk-in place, and they turned me away because it was going to be about an hour wait and they’d be closed by then. Third time, I got turned away because I said said “kind of” when they asked me if I’d been around anybody in the past two weeks who tested positive, even though I explained that it was a brief outdoor exchange of hellos from a distance and the neighbor didn’t test positive until a couple days later.

I ended up getting it at Walmart of all places, and they didn’t even ask any of those qualifying questions (i.e. exposure in the past 2 weeks). They just wanted to know my insurance info and which arm to give the shot in.

Now that I’m a caretaker for a medically fragile adult who has never fully recovered from their prior COVID infection, I’m hoping that my situation is covered. But if not, I’ve already been trained on what to say to “qualify”.

Not sure if it’s just a US problem, but I checked my local grocery store and walmart websites. Neither carries it in store, but Walmart has it available for shipping to my state with 2 day shipping for around $10 USD.

I feel like by answering this I’m feeding into OPs sick and twisted furry fantasy, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

At my prior job, it was a generic company-wide career development goal on our yearly assessment for the past 2 or 3 years.

Those of us on the software development side of things had it easy, we could just say we used copilot or chat-gpt to write our unit tests and tada.

For a lot of other folks in non-technical positions, it sounds like they just bullshit their way through it. Used ChatGPT to describe how they used AI to craft their update to the AI goal itself, thus fulfilling the goal successfully.

But when it’s one of your yearly goals, you gotta complete it or it will affect your bonus and any raise you might receive otherwise.

If you’re in the USA, the system of laws is so convoluted and complex that you literally cannot know if you aren’t breaking any laws at any given time and simultaneously, pretty much every functional adult has broken some law at some point in their life.

But, all that aside, it doesn’t matter, because in practice the police can pull you over and detain you for almost any reason or no reason at all. Even if that’s not legal, there’s pretty much nothing stopping them in the heat of the moment.

I know this might sound overly pessimistic, but it’s actually largely true. For example, I was driving home from the bar just a couple hours ago, and there were hundreds of people driving the wrong way down the freeway. Nearly spilled my drink a couple of times trying to avoid them all.

Just being pragmatic here, but the answer is yes, you can hire such a person. It would be a terrible, terrible idea. As for the other options you mentioned, just don’t do it. There’s no scenario where these methods don’t traumatize survivors, bystanders, first responders, and just random people – none of whom deserve that.

I know someone who came home to his partner’s dead lifeless body after a hanging. I know someone who found their child several days after an intentional overdose. I know a truck driver who suffered life threatening injuries as a result of avoiding someone trying to end their own life.

And I only saw some of the trauma suffered by those folks, I’m sure the real trauma was far, far deeper.
