  • That’s some Reagan speech rage bait NGL. What you wrote is eerily similar to what Trump and Republicans are pushing against homeless and “mentally ill” people.

Also, after all we’ve been through, I’d let people do drugs and porn with their money. Fuck it, we’re all hurt and traumatized. I’m not going to funnel broken people into the psychiatry complex. Just do a bit of research into mental hospitals in the present-day USA to see why this loaded “get help” is a really dangerous demand.

  • People keep ignoring this fact and it really irks me. How many of those Biden voters who didn’t turn out in 2024 would have actually voted for Harris? Every leftist and liberal I heard from were all saying we needed to stop Trump.

For some reason, political analysis keeps glossing over the fact that most USAmericans live in the day-to-day. The country sucks right now, and if you even begin to get into why you lose 40% of your listeners because our social spheres fundamentally curate ignorance.

In a nation as divided and selfish and stupid as the USA, the most popular position is opposition. That’s how Obama beat Bush; how Trump beat neolib Dems; how Biden barely beat Trump barely in 2020 by a few states’ electorates; and how Trump beat the Biden/Harris pairing in 2024.

Even Bernie Sanders, who I would have loved, was running on an opposition platform in 2016 and 2020. Bernie just lost because corporate Dems got the majority of Democrat voters to support Biden, by turning their opposition to Trump into fear that Bernie “just couldn’t win” like an establishment Democrat could.

  • UBI is great, but First there’s gotta be separate publicly-funded social nets for essentials like food, housing, water, electricity, heating…

Giving everyone $5000/mo to buy everything you want and need is far too volatile, and with poor budgeting people will end up trapped in debt spirals, needing microfinance loans to survive. I’d rather the government give $1000/mo to buy everything you want, then having public services to provide food, rent, and other necessities.

I fear that giving free-range UBI on its own will spawn a bunch of extreme examples that get disseminated en-masse by reactionary outlets to breed resentment of UBI and “handouts” in the eyes of the people. You’ll have folks who are physically and/or mentally ill, who spend the whole allowance on drugs or gambling or porn or other controversial expenditures; then have to turn to charity to survive until their next UBI check. I’d need to know people would have that stable base before I’d feel comfortable with them being thrown that rope.

This is coming from seeing decades of USA arguments against welfare, then watching the “For The Children” fearmongering against the open internet. I just don’t want a few extreme examples to have us all strung up.

  • The list of votes is here

This is far from an appearance issue. 18 Republicans also opposed the budget. If every Democrat had joined the 18 Republicans in saying no, this budget would not have been approved. Every politician – Democrat or not – who approved this budget needs to be voted out, no questions (if we get the chance). Primary the Democrats who voted “Yea”.

“There’s always money for bombs” but $900 Billion is absurd; and Democrats are screwing everyone over by encouraging this war. We do not want MAGA to have Wartime Powers. We do not want JD Vance, Stephen Miller, and Mike Johnson to have Wartime Powers.

  • It’s very disappointing how far removed from reality American politicians with only a few exceptions are.

They’re not ignorant. She’s not ignorant. Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State under Obama, and occupying Israel (“America’s greatest ally”) was brutalizing Palestinians during that administration, too. She absolutely knows what’s been going on.

Statements like Hillary Clinton’s are meant to make Palestinian support seem infantile to the public, because pro-Israeli folks Know they’ve lost control of the narrative. Israel and its supporters can’t beat the facts, so they’re making absurdist claims like these to discredit their opposition. Don’t get cocky, though. This is a page exactly out of the Trump campaign’s playbook, And it worked for his campaign. Our fight doesn’t end until Israel does.
