Problem is companies like to use global accounting schemes to hide/move profit.

If it was “5% of profit in the EU” then overnight Apple would suddenly make 0 profit in the EU due to “brand licensing fees” to Apple Cayman Islands Incorporated.

I don’t know what the big fuss is about, the whole project has been a roaring success, and looks to continue delivering for another decade.

Just to say I would love for an iPad Pro to replace my MacBook, but without root file system access or a bash/zsh terminal it wouldn’t work.

Does the new multitasking stuff and liquid glass work well on the base iPad that’s a couple of hundred bucks?

Can’t justify having two super powerful four figure devices that have such overlap otherwise (for me).

Don’t forget the yachts and private jets, and of course the 12 bedroom mansions for 3 child families.

At a guess:

• Volume discount: Amazon will buy a hell of a lot more books than a single mom and pop store
• Retail rule of thirds: (very loosely) a third of the price you it goes to manufacturing, a third to distribution/logistics, and a third to the retailer. Amazon vertically integrates the second two.
• Online only: website capacity costs a lot less than running a brick and mortar store
• Margin: amazon will make less per book but sells more books because people prefer to buy them cheaper. There’s a separate discussion here about anti competitive practices (eg undercutting competition to put them out of business, then raising prices later) but that is a whole other debate
