mantra@lemmy.ziptoAskLemmy@lemmings.world•How important is chemistry/attraction? Can it develop over time?
5·10 days agoProceed with caution, but give yourself some time. Six months out from a serious relationship is not that long. It is inevitable that you are still doing comparisons and the like. You need some time for your new partner to settle into your life a bit. That being said, attractiveness fades, so if you want to spend forever with this one, you better make sure you got more than just a physical attraction going on. Also it doesn’t have to be the forever one, you can have some a fun and fulfilling time with someone without committing to forever. Don’t worry so much about some planner future and just enjoy spending time with her. That might settle your worries naturally. Good luck!
Super cool!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What exactly is the reasoning behind Satan ruling Hell?
8·1 month agoLet us not forget that according to the Bible, angels do not have free will. It is pretty clear that humans are the only beings in all of existence to have such a thing. Angels are just extensions of God’s will. So Lucifer could not rebel of their own volition, that they did so was God’s will. If humanity’s free will were to mean anything, they had to be tempted and forced to choose, had to have bad guys.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer@lemmy.world•Request: Tell me why Buffy is worth it!
21·2 months agoThe movie was a comedy, which is not what the show was trying to do. The very tropes the movie was making fun of were taken pretty seriously by the show. They are very different things. I will admit, fun may have been the wrong word when I should just said comedy.

15·2 months agoIf you liked the movie, there is a good chance you will dislike the show. It is not the same thing. Very serious teen drama angst and none of the fun. To be fair, I have only seen bits and pieces because I just wasn’t into it. Def more like Supernatural than Firefly.

Friendly reminder that a lot of libraries lend audio books as well.
Probably my Canon AE-1. Not sure of the exact year, but the model was made from roughly '76 to '84.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it mean to use a bird identification app to call birds in closer?
152·5 months agoYes. Maybe try feeders. Binoculars also work, but may require some patience.Doesn’t seem like you need to tease/antagonize them to be able to see them.
Of course all old testament. They so conveniently forget that their hippy savior changed the rules, because of course they don’t actually like his message; does not justify their desire to have power over others.
I would argue that Luke was never just told he was a master and that was that. He left his training with Yoda early, against advisement, and lost a hand as a result of not being ready. His swagger in Return of the Jedi was largely an act, by his own admission, and had his father not turned, Luke would have been made a stain by Palpatine. As the new films progressed, it was clear he was still full of doubt, hence the failure with Kylo. Maybe he finally felt and acted like a master after his self imposed exile, meeting Rey and coming to terms with what he had to do. However the way he went about it was informed by a lifetime of loss and failure. This made him seek a path that was different than those that went before him, who cocked it all up with their overconfidence and willingness to throw their weight around.

politics @lemmy.world•Joy Reid claims MSNBC fired her without warning, speculates her coverage of Trump, Gaza led to ouster
28·5 months agoNot in the good old US of A. At-will employment is the norm, so unless it is very clear that she was fired for her race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability, not much she can do.
Hellraiser. Really only the first two (not counting the original black and white art experiment version, which is super cool).

This fits well with my philosophy: I tolerate continued existence out of a morbid sense of curiosity.
