NATO infighting? You love to see it, folks.
The latest incident of America’s satrapies becoming increasingly unhappy about their mandated kowtowing involves, of all places, Greenland. As I’m sure most people here are aware, Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark with a degree of geopolitical and economic importance - the former due to its proximity to Russia, and the latter due to the proven and potential reserves of minerals that could be mined there. It’s also been an odd fascination of Trump during his reign, now culminating in outright demands.
Trump has called for negotiations with Denmark to purchase Greenland, justifying this by stating that it would be safer from Russia and China under America’s protection. Apparently, Norway’s decision to not give him the Nobel Peace Prize further inflamed him (not that the Norweigan government decides who receives the prizes). He has also said that countries that do not allow him to make the decision - which not only includes Denmark, but also other European countries - will suffer increased tariffs by June, and that he has not ruled out a military solution.
This threat has led to much internal bickering inside the West, with European leaders stating they will not give in to Trump’s demands, and even sending small numbers of troops to Greenland. The most bizarre part of this whole affair is that the US already basically has total military access and control over Greenland anyway, and has since the 1950s, when they signed an agreement with Denmark. There are already several US military facilities on Greenland, and B-52 bombers have famously flown in the vicinity of the island (and crashed into it with nuclear bombs in tow, in fact). Therefore, this whole event - in line with his all-performance, little-results presidency so far - seems to be largely about the theatrics of forcing the Europeans to continue to submit to his whims. I would not be surprised if they ultimately do sign a very imbalanced deal, though - the current European leadership is bound too tightly to the US to put up even half-hearted resistance.
This is all simultaneously occurring alongside the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to China in which longstanding sore spots in their bilateral relationship are being addressed, with China reducing tariffs on Canadian canola oilseeds, and Canada reducing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, as well as currency swaps between their central banks, among many other things. It seems no accident that Canada’s reconsideration of their relationship with China is occurring as Trump has made remarks about turning Canada into the next US state, as well as the demand for the renegotiation of the USMCA.

Defense Politics Asia’s youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don’t want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it’s just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists’ side.

On current US and UK forces deployed to the Middle East in the military buildup against Iran.
Based at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan:
36 F-15E Strike Eagle tactical fighter aircraft. Capable of defensive counter air operations (shooting down incoming one way attack drones and cruise missiles) using APKWS laser guided rockets (up to 42 each) and AIM-120 AMRAAM (4 each) and AIM-9 Sidewinder (4 each) air to air missiles. Also capable of stand off strikes utilising AGM-158 JASSM (up to 5 each) cruise missiles, and other kinds of air to ground bombing/attack operations if/when air superiority is achieved utilising a wide range of munitions, with a single F-15E having a greater payload capacity than WW-2 era strategic bombers.
An unknown number of A-10C Thunderbolt II/Warthog ground attack/close air support aircraft, presumably between 8-12. Capable of supplementing defensive counter air against one way attack drones using APKWS laser guided rockets, AIM-9 series air to air missiles, and it’s large gun, too slow to engage cruise missiles. Can supplement stand off strikes by launching ADM-160 MALD air launched decoys/jammers. Can carry out ground attack missions only if total air supremacy is achieved, vulnerable to surface to air fire from missiles and guns.
Based in Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar,:
20 KC-135 Stratotanker and one KC-46 Pegasus mid air refueling aircraft of the United States Air Force (USAF), along with 1 KC Mk.2 Voyager of the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force (RAF). Their role is self explanatory, they refuel aircraft (fighters, bombers, etc) while they are airborne, increasing the amount of time that they can remain airborne as well as extending range.
4 RAF Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 tactical fighter aircraft. They were apparently invited by the Government of Qatar for defensive counter air operations, to bolster defences. Pictured with 4 AIM-132 ASRAAM and 4 MBDA Meteor BVRAAM air to air missiles each. They are also capable of stand off strikes using Strom Shadow/SCALP EG cruise missiles, and ground attack using a variety of guided bombs and air to surface missiles if air superiority is achieved, though offensive operations by the UK are unlikely. There are also 4 RAF Typhoons present in Saudi Arabia and 3-4 in Cyprus, with 1 KC Mk.2 Voyager at Cyprus too.
The next big deployment expected in the coming days, by the end of the weekend, is of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group, which has a squadron of F-35C fifth generation stealth tactical fighter aircraft, and EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft equipped with the Next Generation Jammer - Mid Band pods, both of which are used to suppress and destroy modern air defences, commonly referred to as double digit SA systems based off of the NATO designations for late era Soviet and modern Russian SAMs (Surface to Air Missiles). Example: S-300PS = SA-10, S-400 = SA-21. Older SAMs only have a single digit SA designation. Example S-125 Neva = SA-3. 2K12 Kub = SA-6.

RAF Typhoons in Qatar.
Not to discount how much this thing can carry because that’s still crazy but for the strategic bombers that was more about range and performance than capability. There are recorded instances of a B-29 carrying two grand slams (2x10000kg) but with much shorter range and probably a lot of stress. Idk much about modern planes but had a WW2 phase as a teenager.
That’s actually true wow
Pictures, testing configuration never used in combat
Specially modified Lancaster bombers could only carry one Grand Slam and to have a fully open bomb bay because it didn’t fit.
Modern planes, most “bunker busting” done by US tactical fighter aircraft involves the use of GBU-31 2000lb JDAMs with a BLU-109 penetrator warhead. An F-35 can carry 2 of them internally. Then there’s the 5000lb class of bunker busting bombs, usually carried by the F-15E, the F-35 could carry them but only externally. Those are the biggest bombs used by tactical fighters. Bombers can also carry the 2000lb and 5000lb bunker busters, a B-2 can carry 16x 2000lb bombs or 8x 5000lb. And the B-2 can carry the biggest bunker buster currently in service, the GBU-57 MOP, it weighs 30 000lbs and a B-2 can carry 2 of them.
For more general purpose missions that don’t involve “bunker busting”, the most common munitions are usually 500lb JDAMs, some of which can be laser guided now. A B-2 can carry 80 of those. Then there’s the family of 250lb Small Diameter Bombs (SDBs), small glide bombs with various guidance and warhead combinations, an F-35 can carry 8 internally, an F-15E 20 of those. The US Navy also has JSOW, a 1000lb class stealth glide bomb that it uses with F/A-18s and F-35Cs.
Do you have any good sources you follow for flight tracking in the US? I used to know some that are no longer on twitter, I don’t do a ton myself but I’ll check out interesting flights I see in my area. Last night there were two US Army Chinooks I saw that weren’t visible on flightradar24, one of them was on the map as it took off and then turned off flight tracking. It probably happens plenty but I haven’t seen that here, I don’t track any in my area I don’t directly see though usually, but they have always been visible on flightradar24 even if there is no owner or specific info.
