Last I heard “super spikes” can increase performance in track runners by like 2% and that’s basically it. Most of the rest of running shoe designs are based on weight and comfort but competitive shoe brands aren’t really one upping each other on a 15% margin

The best shoes don’t really increase your speed, but does reduce impact energy loss so you’re less strained and can run for longer. Sometimes it may allow you to run faster, mostly by reducing friction/waste (depends on how you run and more)
