Look up the history of yoga (as popularised in the west). Much of it came from European gymnastic exercises with some orientalist flavour sprinkled on them, though there’s a lot of overlap with the esoteric end of fascism, weird racial theories and such. (At least until the mid-1940s, after which it quiets down a bit.)
