The veto override Ohio Republican lawmakers are focused on is a small administrative change to the type of levies that can go to voters. Their time would be better spent on long-term and short-term policy to increase incomes for Ohio families.
There’s a lot of tax rebates once you get enough property. Like the forestry credit you can get for killing off invasive species like Briars and Vines, but you can only take advantage of that credit if you have at least 50 acres.
So the massive landholders already get a break, most of the property tax income is from people who own single family homes on small sub-acre lots.
Income needs to be fixed first, I agree, but the high property taxes are another obstacle that prevents people from being able to own homes and forces them to pay rent to corporations who get discounts for hoarding land.
They have no interest in that. Property taxes generally focus on those who have money, which means cuts for their rich donors.
