I have to disagree with the position that it’s founded in an effort to create balance. That gives too much deference to honest intent.
Well, that’s why it’s called false balance. They claim (often in bad faith) they’re providing “fair and balanced” coverage of an issue, when their framing in fact puts a finger on the scale.
