I commute by bike and daily pass a remote house with a big fenced yard with at least 3 identical dogs (brown, thick foreheads, no tails). They always bark at me but in my mind they’re very friendly and should I ever get off my bike and approach them it would be a happy meeting indeed.
But there’s also another voice telling me to let that fantasy remain a fantasy.
I have a little scar on my knuckle from letting a dog sniff my hand through a fence. Best to love then in passing.

@LadyButterfly after I wrote that, I did think how miraculous it is that in my lifetime, dogs have risen to a better status from the one where they were mainly a food animal. And I’m really happy about this!
