Super tangential but it’s so weird to be called slurs that don’t even apply? One time someone called me a k-word d-word (two slurs that rhyme, which stunned me also), and I’m neither Jewish nor a lesbian. I’m AFAB nb though. What do you even say to that?

Anyone got some citation on this? Not that I’m planning to go to Texas but it doesn’t sound too far fetched to be real.

Here in Texas I have seen pickup trucks with a shotgun mounted on the back window and a decal (covering most of said window) of two hands giving the middle finger at each end of the text “FUCK YOUR FEELINGS” The gauge for far fetched is at another dimension here in Texas.

Guessing Bowie is too fabulous to go to Texas, but tricksy that one, prove me wrong… He was once smoking hash joints in a Sydney night club at 10am…

One time I was so drunk, I walked in and out of a convenience store at 10pm and the next day, I learned it was robbed on the news. And my receipt was for that exact time.

I mean to be fair the receipt machine could’ve been wrong by like a few minutes I’ve seen that on the weighing machine I always use that’s consistently off by 10 minutes but also noone changes it when it changes to daylight savings so it could’ve also been off by like an hour

The only time I went to Texas was driving across it in the late '80s. Stopped for the night to sleep and, while walking to get something to eat, a kid yelled at me,“IF MY BROTHER SEES YOU, HE’S GOING TO KICK YOUR ASS!!” I was too tired from driving all day to respond, but that was enough for me.

I like the music but idk if he’s the guy anybody wants associated with their cause. The dude had straight sex with children, he’s no lgbt icon.

There was a specific group or organization called Babie Groupies of Los Angeles, and David Bowie absolutely knew who they were in the multiple encounters with them, and he even organized for them to follow him on tour.

You do not want this man as the icon for your group.

Personally, I don’t want to associate with him because of his catastrophic levels of racism, mostly because there is better, clearer proof of it.

In 1976 Bowie stated in a Playboy interview that, “Britain is ready for a fascist leader… I think Britain could benefit from a fascist leader. After all, fascism is really nationalism… I believe very strongly in fascism, people have always responded with greater efficiency under a regimental leadership…Adolf Hitler was one of the first rock stars…You’ve got to have an extreme right front come up and sweep everything off its feet and tidy everything up.”

He kind of took it back later but it wasn’t “I apologise I was wrong” type, it was more of a “I was in love with magic of nazism before but now I don’t love it anymore”, which is one ukulele away from the worst apology ever

This got me curious and I found this on the wiki

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Against_Racism

where he made an album disavowing racism and fascism, hard pivoting from those comments?

"He said: "I have made my two or three glib, theatrical observations on English society and the only thing I can now counter with is to state that I am NOT a fascist.“By the 1980s, Bowie’s public statements and imagery in his art had shifted towards anti-racism and anti-fascism. In an interview with MTV anchor Mark Goodman in 1983, Bowie aggressively criticised the channel for not providing enough coverage of Black musicians.Bowie described his videos for “China Girl” and “Let’s Dance” as “simple” statements against racism, and his album Tin Machine as taking a more direct stance against fascism and neo-Nazism.”

Those were some shitty takes but it looks like he revoked them. I’m cautious about purity testing as long as their actions speak louder in the correct direction.

It is concerning though, isn’t it. Wouldn’t make me like the guy very much, either.

I believe Bowie was doing a form of Method Acting as The White Duke, a character he played for 2 albums.

I don’t like the wording, and I feel you can easily dismiss that, but it’s what I heard.

“I am doing an overt racist speech to my audience as a method acting” is slightly more pretensions version of “it was just a joke bro” from a person who’s nazi post on nazi forum were discovered.

Fuck if I know. Maybe he was doing a bit, maybe he changed his mind, maybe he started hiding his views later, who knows. Doesn’t change a lot, to be honest.

I’m assuming they’re referring to the ‘baby groupies’ of the time or whatever, I don’t really remember much about it. teens that went around and sought out rockstars and then the rockstars went with it / pursued them because being famous doesn’t inherently make you a good person and I guess it was just a different time where they could get away with that stuff. idk, I wasn’t born yet
