I fucking hate how smug they are. I grew up in America but now live in Ireland with my girlfriend. The amount of smug social democratic liberals drives me insane. They actually think they’re ontologically better than the average American because they have more safety nets that haven’t been 100% wiped out yet and because they do not have their shitty off-brand Trump in power yet.

It actually makes me hate liberals more than the Nazis in power, at least the Nazis are somehow less annoying and more open and less smug. Like they both want me dead one is more open about it and not smug.
These fucking liberals cannot handle that living in the west, they are living in US colonies, their social democracy is a relic of a cold war era where the US allowed their universal healthcare to combat any pressure from communism and the USSR. And now that there is no USSR its all going away! It doesn’t matter how much the French protest they’re losing their safety nets. Britain will lose the NHS when reform get into power.
THE THING THAT really fucking gets me is when they act like they’re better because they currently do not have their own shitty offbrand Trump in power. Like They are all at most 5 years away from having their own little Trump elected or installed but until then I have to hear about how LIBERAL AND PROGRESSIVE their supposed imperialist racist ass countries are. Almost everyone is disgustingly racist while having no understanding of what racism is and claiming they are the most anti-racist there is.
The smugness is off the charts. News comment sections are full of mostly dudes who compete in mansplaining to each other on how wars and conflicts work, how economy works and everyone is so incredibly smug and sure of themselves because they are “well read” (means they read the liberal newspapers and watch the very serious liberal men debate this stuff on tv). They show up to the marketplace of ideas that they imagine in their head with a clear case of first character syndrome and an air of entitlement that is hard to pin down. To them it is still: “The Middle East is complicated.” End of discussion.
They know nothing about the things that happen in the US really, they can’t really read in English and don’t engage with anything other than what the news tell them. The rest of the world, crickets.
They take such pride in being oh so rational and accepting the hard realities. Like throwing migrants in the sea: “It’s a harsh reality, but let’s face it, we can’t feed all those people.” This is a line I’ve had to hear countless times in my life.
Like they are sitting on some incredible bastion of good things while there are homeless on the streets, people literally go hungry and austerity intensifies. They know nothing of the realities of the migrants who are here and how violent the system is to them. They typically know nothing about much at all, but they definitely think they do.
I hate it. It’s all coated in fascist values that nobody sees and is done with such smugness and air of superiority.
