People have basically decided XBOX needs to die and is killing itself at this point because they (XBOX) refuse to do anything a company that actually wants to sell hardware would do. And they’re not totally wrong.

I think Microsoft’s short sightedness, inter-department competition, and genuine disinterest in their console gaming market position is to blame for the XBox’s fall. Like on paper it makes sense to make everything on XBox also on PC - that is, to everyone except the XBox division, who probably weren’t able to prevent that decision from going through. Other decisions that have devalued XBox over the past decade also feel like they came from higher ups and not the XBox division themselves.

MS’ decisions around the XBox for like the past ten years have been consistently bad. The XBox One had four versions with names more confusing to customers than the Wii U and the current one (the “Series X” not to be confused with the “One X”) has abandoned the idea of console exclusives and made its most attractive feature more expensive. There’s also a rumor that the next one is coming out next year which if true would mean that the Series X has had a shockingly short lifespan (although it might just be another mid generation upgrade with a confusing name).
