But really the democrats unrelenting support for Israel was unjustifiable and it was right to be called out. You don’t support evil just because it’s the least bad option or something. I guess there’s a lot of money filling the coffers from there or something but it doesn’t matter, it is wrong.

I struggle to square the statement in the scope of “democracy”. It reads like you don’t want to compromise to reach a solution at all. That’s not democracy. There will always be people who hold positions different to yours and one side is going to have to bend their principals to reach a compromise.

No, I’m not an active part of politics. My only input is to vote. Hence I vote which party aligns with me the most.

The actual compromise happens by politics, I’m not involved of that.

I’m not asking you to accept any particular position here, but if we take a step back from the actual policies of our current time it sounds less like you want a democracy, a system where different views are blended together, and more like a system that only meets “your” views.

To be honest I don’t know what I want. I’m just trying to make the best of the shit we have now. I do know one thing: When it comes to the extreme-right (like the PVV in Holland where I live or the republicans in the US), there is no way to make any kind of communication work. My vision is purely to live alongside them with as little interaction as possible.

I don’t know if it was clear but I don’t subscribe to any ideology. I just align loosely with them based on my own values.

It was indeed very bad for the democracts to support Israel so staunchly. This is the problem with the US ‘left’. They’re not really left, they’re neoliberal. Money is all that matters to them.

Absolutely. Because we still have principles. And copying right-wing talking points is not one. The whole toilet and sports discussion are complete BS to get themselves angry about stuff that doesn’t actually happen in real life.

Maybe this puts us at a disadvantage but giving up our principles for a common goal is not really how this works. We’d be giving up too much of ourselves. We don’t live by anger and hate that unites us. And I don’t believe in being told what to do/think. I guess for a lot of conservatives this is less alien a concept because they have been brought up in churches which do exactly that.

Personally I also don’t have any loyalty to a political movement. I temporarily align myself while our goals are the most similar but I feel free to flip whenever I feel (or when they do something I don’t agree with). I used to be a member of the socialist party in Holland but they did a few things I didn’t agree with (like firing their entire youth movement for being too left) so now I joined the animal party. Which is also progressive.

I’m very left-wing but the thing with ‘us’ is, that we still have principles. The extreme right is long past any kind of principle or fact. They just live in a fantasy world inventing things to get themselves angry about. Anyone who disagrees in the slightest with today’s narrative will be cancelled from their community. But for us the facts still matter. And that meand we sometimes disagree.

I wouldn’t call someone like Newsom ‘left’ though. He’s left by US standards but for the rest of the world he would still be pretty right-wing. And strongly capitalist/neoliberal.

Anyway you can rant all you like but I’m not going to ‘fall in line’. It’s just a concept alien to me. I have my own goals and principles and I don’t align with others. I might join forces temporarily but that’s about it. I still remain the only one who decides how I feel on each topic. And I will change my political alliances as I go.

True, when I look at the numbers there’s enormous potential if one side can manage to get the non-voters to get off their couches for once. Even in states that are deeply red.

But half the population is female. I would expect all (except the hardest GOP followers) of them to welcome a female president for a change? The problem with Kamala was just that she was pretty invisible during Biden’s presidency and with him pulling out so late she had this whole “second choice” thing hanging over her.

Yeah I’m just not really wed to any language. I guess it is also because I have moved around so much. I’m from Holland but I don’t consider myself a Dutch person, more like a citizen of the world. I’ve become too different to fit in in my home country (also because it’s become an extreme-right cesspool lately 😢 ). I’ve spent about half my life elsewhere. And the places I’ve lived where I spoke the languages I fared noticeably better.

Don’t forget that a lot of today’s problems center around not understanding each other. The hatred of immigrants for example.

I didn’t know that, but I do know that homelessness isn’t just a housing problem. A huge number of cases are more mental health related: E.g. even if the person had money they wouldn’t be able to live in a stable home. Because the root cause of their lack of money and homelessness is mental health. I would also consider drug addiction to be a mental health issue here by the way which would be a significant percentage of the homeless too.

And that is of course heavily associated with the lack of affordable mental healthcare in the US :( And drug addiction care.

Of course if you would give out housing you would save a lot of homeless, just saying it wouldn’t work for all.

Does it really matter? I think the extreme amount of languages in the world right now is not helping us communicate. I don’t view language as a cultural heritage thing, just a communication protocol. And I have moved around a lot in the world, it’s very difficult to be constantly adapting to different languages. That causes a societal integration barrier for me.

I think if we had a universal language (note that it wouldn’t have to be English) we would be able to understand each other better and have less wars.

PS: I’m not advocating to ban languages or something, just to have a universal one. A bit like what Esperanto tried to achieve. Mutual language means more mutual understanding and thus less “us vs them” underbelly feelings that the fascists thrive on.

Yeah I agree, Meta specifically bought meta because it is Zuckerberg’s obsession to own a mainstream computing platform. Microsoft own Windows. Google owns Android. Apple has their own platforms. All of them are deeply entrenched. But meta never did. So the emergence of metaverse was Zuckerberg’s chance to jump into that, this is why he went all-in on it. But this is also why there’s so much lockin on the Quest :( Even though it’s based on Android technically.

I totally agree it should be standardised and some movements have been made to that effect with OpenXR and the like. But nobody big from the industry really stands behind it. OpenXR is more a developer-side thing than a client-side anyway.

To be a latina woman in her 30s would be a definite pick for a presidency over a geriatric male (let’s be honest, I like Bernie Sanders but he is very old).

For such a job you’d want someone in their prime age with sharp attention span, with a forward-looking vision, not back. With multicultural experience to better communicate with the rest of the world.

I’m not an American so I can’t vote but I would definitely pick her out of those two.

Compared to Europe, the democrats are definitely right-wing, not even centric. They are very neoliberal and capitalist. Those are all very right-wing ideas. The republicans are currently in the same class as the radical right which is unfortunately making inroads in Europe. But America doesn’t really know a real left except perhaps Bernie Sanders.
