Came across a tweet of a guy saying that he talked to a guy in Israel who was really enjoying the current state of things. His argument was that he would take his family out to eat every night/evening, and when an iranian strike was imminent, and the sirens would go off, he could legally run from the table without paying the bill.

Don’t care if this story is true or not, it made me chuckle.

Isn’t it a bad sign that the young-guy-candidate is only ahead of the boomer candidate by 4% the day before the election, since the early voting would presumably benefit Zohran Mamdani more than it would Governor R-word?

Quite a lot of childcare places have May 1st as a holiday, which means that it’s more like an unofficial holiday, especially among white collar workers who just “work from home” (like I did at my previous job) while they spend time with their kids, whom they can’t drop off anywhere, because most places are closed.

Spain has a couple of pensioner enclaves that are basically just retirement homes for the worst people in the richer part of Europe. Like, Danish pensioners have lived in the southern part of Spain for close to 45 years at this point, if not closer to 60, and they just flatly refuse to learn spanish or even english, so they just get drunk and sunburned and abuse the locals.

Sorry if my post was unclear, but yes. Mexico and Chile are both extremly catholic countries, while my part of Scandinavia is extremely protestant and we famously work 37 hours every week and not a second more.

IIRC Mexico and Chile has the highest average workhours per year in the OECD. I remember once arguing with a guy at work about “protestant work-ethic” being a myth and showed him the graph.
