Well, I know what other video I’m never watching.
And people wonder why I don’t like being around any vehicle that carries things…
Senior Chief Petty Officer. Starfleet is in my blood, and I’ve spent my entire adult life in service to boldly going.
Keiko and Molly are my favorite humans, but Transporter Room 3 will always be my favorite.
Just don’t ask who what’s in the pattern buffer.
Well, I know what other video I’m never watching.
And people wonder why I don’t like being around any vehicle that carries things…
If it’s what I’m thinking of, camera footage of a vehicle interior.
Driving down the highway, going under an overpass when a brick gets tossed by some kids and goes through the window.
Passenger hit, husband is driving and screams.
You know that scream they mention in The Princess Bride? That “only someone experiencing ultimate suffering” can make?
If you know, you know.
Well, when the people in charge make abiding by laws means you sit quietly waiting to die, protesting is illegal, dissent is illegal, and even having a negative opinion of them is grounds for being mentally unfit, well there’s not much you can do inside the confines of their laws.
Laws are not inherently moral or just. They will have to be broken, and by many MANY people. As my dad used to say " ‘you can have my guns when you pry them from my cold dead hands’ just leaves you a crazy lone gunman dead in the street" he was just making fun of movies when he said it, but to me it’s a call to organize.
The pearl clutching of many non-north American people is becoming nearly comedic.
It’s always been “you shouldn’t lump everyone on that label as the same because they aren’t” up to now, so it sure is “confusing” as to why suddenly all Americans bad.
If the punishment for doing nothing is death, the punishment for speaking up is death, and the punishment for acting out is death… Well what’s stopping the masses from breaking out the guillotines?
Oh right, tons of us are still under the illusion of some kind of social contract being honored by all parties, and are so afraid of losing what little scraps they have they don’t want to stick their heads up after seeing so many get beaten down.
I want Star Trek, not Mad Max or Water World.
But like… Skip ww3 and the eugenics stuff… And the romulan and klingon wars…
The utopian future where energy is renewable and replicators make SCARCITY the only thing that’s scarce.
I tried being a moderator on a forum once, and after alerting admins and the FBI about csam less than a week in, I decided I was done being a moderator.
It was a forum for RC stuff, mostly diy rc planes.
Unfortunately, therapy only helps you cope, it doesn’t let you forget.
I’ve had more conversations than I can count with people I would never be able to talk to in person, all using our own native languages.
The original posts are in English, people comment in their native language, and I use a translator, then respond in my own language. Is the translator perfect? No! Neither is theirs.
With the way most translators I’ve used work, it’s easier for the non-native speaker to try translating, since the translator might try and use different words that entirely change the meaning, but likely list possible alternatives. A native e speaker will understand the alternatives while a non-native speaker probably won’t.
That’s my thought process anyway.
Never had anyone who wasn’t pearl-clutching or virtue-signaling complain about it. And I’ve had tons of conversations with people I’d never have talked to otherwise.
Nothing says “we are a free and open community that welcomes others” like moderators banning discussion of poor moderation.
Yes, I do understand what the rule is there for. No that doesn’t make it any less hilariously shitty.
Fellas, is it gay to have empathy, show genuine emotion, and actually care about another being other than yourself?
I love when people say they feel dumb because they didn’t know something, because then I get to share xkcd with them, too.
It’s very much the “you’re locked in here with me” moment.
It’s been a bit concerning seeing all the people just giddy with the prospect of millions of people dying from internal issues, either idiotically not understanding or simply being too naive, that when an animal dies, it doesn’t go quietly. Especially not when it senses the cause of its death is near.
And I believe enough people will view the rest of the world as the cause, I genuinely think if it came down to losing control permanently or causing the literal end of the world by launching as many nuclear and conventional strikes as possible before death takes them.
Personally, I don’t relish the downfall of any major country, and despite other countries issues I’d rather see them overthrow their tyrannical governments than grab popcorn and cheer as they crumble to civil wars and starvation. That just seems a bit too close to being “arch villain from a cartoon” for my taste.
I’d really like to see the Cure For Fascism being used here in my own country, but unfortunately “be the change you want to see in the world” just leaves a dead crazed lone gunman in the street. Organization will be needed.
