  • One problem with many of these methods is that the geoengineering program must continue.

Let’s say we did it for 60 years, still emitting greenhouse gasses due to the lack of immediate warming effect. Then, society shifts, the world decides that expensive geoengineering projects are unnecessary, outside of the budget, or that politicians think the risk is overblown. We stop the programs. Then we have extremely rapid warming that could push us over multiple tipping points in a few short years before anyone admits fault.

These projects need to be considered as a stay-of-execution, but many in power will treat them as an excuse to continue fossil fuel emissions.

  • tl;dr – Someone stating the obvious with a bulletpoint breakdown that there is a user (cm0002) with a grudge against “tankie triad” using self-declared alts and pushing demonstrably untrue smears onto the rest of the lemmyverse to paint us in a bad light. And yeah, it’s true. There is a weird circus of lies out there to discredit us by using the most flimsy, poorly spun dramatics.

This whole project is run by communist devs who earnestly believe in user freedom. A side effect of that the devs won’t actually ban people who are calling them authoritarian tyrants. Ironically, cm0002’s deranged crusade simply proves the moral purity (if not superiority) of their opponents. A pleasant side effect that it has on hexbear is that it filters out the gullible from engaging with us.

  • He’s just one guy though, he can’t start that strong.

I’m from the UK, and I’d like to see a whole raft of strong measures passed, such as BDS becoming an enforced national law, companies that work with Israel barred from the UK, people that support the IDF slapped with terror charges, and many lobbyists/journalists being slapped with genocide charges… And that’s just if we’re given a little room to play around with pre-revolutionary politics, before concerning ourselves with what they actually deserve.

I don’t think it’s possible to implement good left policies without there also being a big enough, softer, leftist movement to give us space to operate - and while, of course, we’re going to object to the softer lefts views, it doesn’t mean their existence isn’t valuable to us as a pipeline and to shift peoples frame of reference leftwards.

  • It’s also worth considering that Poland too, was “allied with the nazi’s” when it invaded and occupied parts of the Czech republic in concert with the nazi offensive. However, I’d never go as far as to say something like “Poland weren’t the victims in WW2” or that “the USSR halting polonization by liberating polish occupied belarus was a good thing” to go out of my way specifically to “bait anarkiddies” – Unless I wanted to simply encourage leftist infighting, of course?

I’ll be honest. dbzer0 confuses me as an instance. I’d prefer to consider them friends - fellow travellers trying to eventually make our way to the same end point - but seeing things like the admins condoning “genocide denial as bait for tankies” or “transphobia is fine on dbzer0 as long as the target is a tankie” is pretty wild.

  • Russia plays too soft.

Ukraine is signatory to Additional Protocols 1, and this is a violation of Article 56. It is up to states to define their own legal punishments to violations of the articles, however, something that people don’t consider with the geneva conventions/protocols is that the allowed punishment for violation can be quite shocking. For example, the geneva convention allows you to simply execute mercenaries as a matter of legal resolution.

The Geneva Convention also outlines Reprisals. The sole purpose of a reprisal is to compel an opposing party to comply with international humanitarian law. For a state to declare a reprisal, you must inform the offending state of their violation (attacking a nuclear power plant) and give them a chance to cease this violation (such as, say, handing over the commander that approved the violation and all documents necessary to convict them in a Russian court within 48 hours.) or suffer an official reprisal under the geneva conventions. Some things are off limits for reprisals such as attacking civil nuclear plants or dams. A tactical nuclear attack against drone launching sites/airbases to declare the cost of future attacks on nuclear facilities would be both in-line with Russian state deterrence policy, and a valid reprisal under the geneva conventions.

In my opinion, Russia should conduct a humanitarian nuclear strike to remind Ukraine of their obligations.
