Flavored treats that are only available certain times of the year are the closest we get to the seasonal eating patterns of our ancestors
I know spring is just around the corner whenever the shamrock shake ripens up
Just wait until AGI perfects cold fusion
The nefarious Russian hides in a horde of short-stature Asians. The noble Ukrainian stands proud as a peer among his towering anglo protectors
The cheapest new cars are about $30k (Corolla). If you’re talking midgrade like a Rav4, you’re closing in on 50k
Well said. Earlier this year, I was in a Lyft and the driver only spoke Spanish. I can speak some, so I struck up a conversation with him. He was from Cuba, and when I asked about his life there, he said “all bad” and gave a thumbs down. He didn’t specify, but surely the economic situation played a role in his decision to leave. Unfortunately he didn’t give any other info; I would have really liked to hear his perspective
Lots of good posts in this thread, but I’ll take a different approach and say that if you’re loving and kind to people and animals and you are in any way handy/able to fix broken things, friends will find you. They’ll be friends who need kindness, love, and things fixed, but they’ll appreciate that you can do that for them.
As Red Green once said, if women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Stop looking forward to dieing for the cause and find a way to live for it.
Start growing some houseplants; a living thing you see every day and control. It’ll give practice in compassion and it’ll give you something to talk about. Then get into gardening and giving away your surplus to food banks or neighbors.
Babe wake up, you’re gonna miss the latest manufactured economic crisis designed to drain the middling savings of the working class for the third time since 2008
We joke, but from what I can tell based on what vegan yt chefs say, there are people who never saute their veggies in oil before simmering them in the soup. My guess is “water based cooking” doesn’t use oil. Also just looked it up and it seems like they avoid “dry cooking” (baking) or anything that browns food as a way to avoid carcinogens
Just donated what I could, Soliman
I thought it was just ok

Was that the two separate incidents on New Year’s? Vegas and N’Orleans?
I took a millennial vacation to Vegas this February. It wasn’t a great vacation, but it was a pretty good vacation, and the weather was better than where I was coming from. There is a lot of spectacle to see free of charge (fountains, mountains, the sphere, the strip, Fremont St) and a lot to see that is pay-to-play (museums, performances, etc).
Vegas was a decent destination for food and activities (Tacotarian was so good). I was pleasantly surprised because I’ve been passing through the town for the better part of 30 years, and the 2025 version was the most holistic “maybe actually a city” version of Vegas I’ve seen. As EnsignRedshirt said, prices are fucking stupid now. Flights and hotels, historically very cheap purchases, are no longer so cheap you can’t say no. I think I paid $300/night to stay at the “second nicest hotel in downtown”.
I saw a recent tiktok where a resident was saying the major factor contributing to the decline is that retirees are the bread and butter of Vegas, and as their material conditions get worse, that group needs to cut costs, and their “low cost gambling vacation” is the first to go.
So, with the cheap attractions not so cheap and the main customer base turning away, Vegas needs to reinvent itself
Here’s to hoping those tribal nations do with the artifacts how they see fit and maybe that includes displaying them for educational purposes at some museum-type location.
Was this NAGPRA written with good intentions? Or is this a trump ploy to remove Native American history from “United Statesian” museums?
Is this the guy who took the failing company’s last few thousand bucks and took it to the casino and turned it into a fortune?
Last week, an acquaintance visited in-person and stayed over at my house, then a few days later asked to “schedule a call” this last weekend. I left them on read and skipped the call and am now trying to figure out how to reinitiate the text conversation while not ignoring that I blew them off
Been a muscle powered cyclist for a while now and as I age I’ve noticed I’m just not putting in the miles I used to and my bike mostly sits idle. I think an ebike would get me out and about a lot more. My partner pushes hard against the idea though because cycling is one of their only forms of exercise (but we almost never ride anymore). The joys of interdependence
