Honestly if someone is competent enough to put together skynet, I think that might be an improvement.
More likely we’ll get a shitty chatbot that some tech bro claims is skynet and the world will fall to the absolute worst, buggiest AI overlord imaginable. It’ll be an unholy fusion of Terminator and Idiocracy.
This is still what baffles me. We aren’t losing our country to a charismatic, two faced mastermind. We’re losing our country to a fucking obvious loser. He’s literally so bad it’s hard to parody him since even the parodies are tame in comparison to what he actually does. It’s ridiculous

I feel like a huge number of franchises were started back in the day, but everything now is just sequels and remasters of old games.
How many of the current biggest AAA titles got their start in the 2005-2015 era vs the number of new franchises in 2015-2025?
Creativity seems to be mostly dead and games all have to be mega hits or they’re considered a failure. There’s also a distinct lack of AA games (the successful of which often later became AAA titles).
AAA games are legitimately worse now than before, but the gulf isn’t as big as people are claiming.
This is why I think it’s funny people still believe ‘the Internet is forever’. Data disappears all the time. If you really start paying attention it’s scary how ephemeral the Internet truly is and how much is lost all the time.
Or in the case of software it’s ‘You don’t’ as all the options and customization no longer exist
Honestly disagree. I think it’s important to distinguish between companies who make a product or offer a service and charge appropriately for that transaction. Commerce isn’t an inherent evil.
Enshittification is inevitable when the customers are no longer the primary method to make money for the executives. That’s the perverse incentive that results in actively sabotaging your own business for greater short term profits because you’ve created a system that doesn’t punish you for doing so (typically by running every ‘real’ competitor into the ground first).
If they are more concerned about stock price, or advertisers or selling data, those are the avenues to enshittification. But selling a service to end users for profit is just normal business.
It was unfortunate to learn that work did not have the concept of semesters and you couldn’t just write off an assignment from your boss as ‘well I’ll get a zero from that one, but there’s always next semester’. They just keep bugging you about it over and over even though clearly I’ve moved on already.
Semesters were a much easier ‘reset’ than getting fired was.
