  • Oh wait piefed people can’t see this because the developer of the piefed fork hard coded it to block hexbear while still forcing us to see comments from their instances.

yeah fuck that. why do we stay federated with them if they blocked us? they’re just cynically manipulating how federation is supposed to work. if they cant see our replies why should we be subjected to their runny libshit? no offense or hate directed to [email protected], their above comment is fine but i am sick of smug piefed libs and even chuds stinking up a thread and then seeing hexbear people take the time to write good explanatory replies and not knowing that the person they are responding to will never even see.

  • I do hope he dies within the year.

Who? I would bet theres a long list of names we’d agree on but in this context I dont know who you are talking about. I’m probably missing something.

I do not use any social media anymore either. Except lemmy and hexbear. I dont even use youtube or search engines directly, I just watch yt videos through the kind of sites that HexReplyBot suggests and do indirect searches with aggregators. But for me at least I still think it is important to read the news even if its just to know what angle they are using to try to lead and fool the masses. World news I get from here but I do read local news to know what’s happening right around me.

We are headed for some real dark shit no matter what.

  • Maybe it’s a regional thing, but I don’t think so. I’ve known a number of people who worked in restaurants, and the waiters and bussers were always separate jobs, very clearly different in their roles. A lot of times someone who was a bussers for a while first would end up becoming a waiter.

Yes, “bus boy” is another term for it, phased out for obvious reasons but I think even back in the good old chuddy prewoke days, they were called bussers too.

But no, the OP image is definitely a waiter since she’s taking an order, a busser would not do that. The waiter takes the order and brings the food (among other things) but a busser cleans the tables afterwards and brings all the used dishes to dishwashers. They set up the place and like has been said, move stuff that needs moving and clean up things that need to be cleaned up. The busser usually has no contact with the patrons/customers. They will more often be seen pushing carts with dishes, both clean and dirty, but the waiters do not deal with that kind of thing.

It also matters what kind of establishment it is. If it’s a little cafe, you’re more likely to have the waiter doing the table cleanup, but I would guess that’s only because there isn’t enough volume to need a busser. The OP pic is of a kind of place that doesn’t exist much anymore unless its as a kind of nostalgia gimmick. It’s a fast food place where a person brings the food out to your car instead of going through a drivethrough.

  • Without the item moving component, most consider it functionally a different role, at least in my experience, where it wouldn’t be described as waiting tables.

I mean waiter and table-busser are two distinct jobs at most restaurants. There’s overlap in what they do, but still, there is a lot more to being a waiter than moving stuff around. There’s more to it for table-bussers too, but just “moving stuff” is closer to their job description than it is for waiters.

  • not let himself seem like he’s minimizing the fear of Jews in New York and elsewhere feel from the threat of hate against them.

Yes, Mamdani should absolutely not minimize the fears of Jews, for many Jews fear being lumped in and associated with the hate-group movement known as Zionism. It is important that he make a clear statement on the distinction that Jews are not Zionists (not by default, though sadly some Jews have bought into the Nazi-like cult of Zionism) and Zionists are not necessarily Jews. It must be reiterated that Judaism is completely distinct from Zionism, the Nazi-like fascist cult, and to conflate the two is deeply antisemitic. Mamdani would do well to make it known that he will not stand for this kind of slander of the Jewish people and that he will do whatever he can with his powers as Mayor to prevent any such attempts to further smear Jewish people with the Zionist label. Mamdani should remind all of New York City that Jews are lovingly welcomed, but the antisemitic Zionists shall not be tolerated.

I wonder what old Bernard’s reaction would have been if Mamdani had responded to him with something like that.

  • Why yes, yes I do think Linux was originally created by a Finnish person. This is the comment you said was “dead wrong”:

You’re on a platform made by communists, there are a lot of us here.

This is not “dead wrong,” this is a fact. One you’re tried (and failed) to deny so now you’re moving the goalposts. It’s so fucking obvious I don’t know why you would want to keep digging yourself into a deeper hole. It’s funny to watch, though. Lemmy does not just “happen to be federated with communist communities.” Lemmy was made. by. communists. And now others, including some right wing dipshits (not unlike yourself), are using it as well. The complete opposite of how you were trying to paint the situation.

  • If i could be bold I think the commonality with chuds that you’re worried about is having no sense of style

This is it exactly. You nailed what the concern really is.

As for the rest, that is really detailed awesome advice thank you. Hopefully at some point I will want to actually develop some sort of style and what you’re describing is in line with what I imagined that might be like, so I’m saving this comment and hopefully referring back to it. But for the moment, I just wanted to not be too visible while also not giving off a redditor vibe, but maybe that’s not possible. Might be one of those things a person just has to put the work into if they don’t want to garner the wrong impressions.
