  • secure core’ vpn It’s a Proton system that is designed to fortify online privacy by routing traffic through privacy-friendly countries before it exits to the public internet. Harder to track means less ad revenue for the corp - boo hoo - so they throttle the hell out of users to drive them away and protect their ad revenue stream to track-able “clients” who foot the bill for this malfeasance.

  • AI didn’t take your job, you priced yourself out of the market.

I’ve been on the technical side of delivering translation for better than 35 years. In that time I’ve had to adapt and learn new technologies as fast as they came out. What started as a challenging, if poorly paid, position has morphed into being a TV producer, director, camera operator, audio, lighting and video tech, translation specialist, computer programmer, network admin, and client handler.

In that same 35 years interpreters and translators haven’t changed one iota: still handsomely paid, catered to, self-righteous and entitled; still prima donnas who reek of imagined superiority.

Now I read about AI “taking” work from them? Guess what - AI won’t fall asleep while on the job. AI won’t shut down because it can’t see what kind of mic a speaker is using or there’s no water in the booth. AI won’t whinge and whine because lunch isn’t provided. AI won’t bitch because their hotel room is too hot/cold/noisy/near the pool/near the elevator/on too high a floor/on too low a floor, or show up to work uselessly hung over.

Suck it up, buttercup, we’ve all had a tough go since Reagan and Thatcher decided corporations and profit outweighed the needs of people. You’ve been pampered forever, now, you have to work. Tough it out and learn to deal with it or fuck off.

  • Well you helped…? FUCK OFF. What “local options”?

Service before Uber was non-existent with a monopoly controlling the market. Uber, Lyft and their ilk introduced competition into a stagnant monopoly. And yes, I supported them with my dollars. Eventually they also started nickel and diming we the paying public. Now, there’s no service anywhere and all the whores are mimicking each other, so I’ve abandoned my “new” whore for an “old” whore.

The race to the bottom of the barrel is complete. Service matters naught. Only money. There were never any local options: a cab monopoly whore, they the likes of Uber who became whores, and now a whole ecosystem of money-grubbing whores.

Fuck you for thinking anything else…

  • Yes, yes, ban all cars, cars bad, drivers bad, noxious exhaust bad, aggressive drivers bad, and so on and so on, ad infinitum. See y’all in December-March at -400C on your electric scooter that is totally non-polluting (what? is electricity totally non-polluting?) trying to navigate uncleared, dilapidated, pot-holed. roads to get anywhere.

Or better still, let’s spend billions beginning with car-friendly infrastructure destruction; neglect regular road, bridge, and tunnel maintenance; and create nodes of community: 15-min walking cities. (*walking times vary by mobility, weather, and your health).

    Well, villages.

    Well, enclaves.

    Well, compounds.

Do car-haters ever think farther than the end of their noses? Do they know what cause and effect is? Do they understand that 15-min walking cities make NIMBY communities? New mental health facility? NIMBY. New correctional facility? NIMBY. New addictions treatment center? NIMBY. Who gets them? The Untermensch who cannot afford to resist their placement.

All in the name of regressing away from cars and making tribal enclaves of like-minded, equally righteous, and (perhaps, most importantly) fiscally advantaged homogeneity.

Hating on cars is the tissue paper veneer of classism and, by extension, racism.

You really want to fight climate change? Too late: you have missed that during your fixation on one aspect (exactly as the petro-industry wanted) of the fight. Now start looking at how you’re going to survive it’s effects. Cause while you were raging against cars, we have passed the PNR on climate devastation.

And if your scooter doesn’t have A/C, it’s pretty useless in the April-November +400C period as well. Because that’s what climate change is: extremes.

  • Canada is 9,984,670sq km with a population density of 4.5/sq km. That’s ~2.2m routes to see all Canadians 5-times a week.

The UK is 244,376sq km with a population density of 286/sq km. If there was universal coverage that’d be about ~1000 delivery-person-routes per day. So delivering a route is orders of magnitude easier, faster, and simpler for the workers at the Royal Mail.

If the UK only had once a day delivery they’d be 0.045% as efficient as thier Canadian counterparts.

EVEN WITH twice daily delivery the Royal Mail has less than 1% the efficiency of CUPW workers.

With that said, both face external (couriers) and internal (government) pressure to profit.

Ask yourself this: as a service to citizens of both countries, what other public services have to make a profit? National Defence? National Healthcare? National Police?

None do because privateers have already raped and pillaged those services for maximum profit as suppliers. So they don’t get lobbied the same - or even compared.

No, just Postal services with their well developed contact with the communities they serve are singled out to be profit centers for cash hungry politicians.
