Michael Burns creator of Wisecrack eventually got fired from his own channel because of this sort of arrangement.
I don’t watch the big channels. It’s the same mass media, broad interest crap TV used to air.
I’m happy that smaller channels, and channels with literally one person, like Dale Philip, are still able to make a living on YouTube.
I think Ms. Rachel is still independent.
I didn’t know there were toddlers here on lemmy ;)
As a 40yo, she’s also probably my favourite YT’er just because she can keep our kiddo entertained while we prep dinner or tidy up, while still teaching them a thing-or-two, and there are no tantrums when it’s time to turn off the TV.
All of this. She’s wholesome, educational, and by all measures she’s a good person. I always describe her as the YouTube generation’s Mr. Rogers.

Assuming the creators go into these deals eyes open I can see the appeal of making an exit from the grind. It’s hard to spin up a business outside of the platforms without access to resources or other income. One person bands will burn out trying to manage merch, algorithm optimisation and content generation at the same time.
I can think of a few channels that have gone interdependent but I’m sure they get income from other places as well.
I’ve had enough of this Brutalmoose slander! He will never sell out!
That’s why it’s important to abandon your faves at their peak and find new scrappy up-and-comers.
I know only one of those and do not like it. So no, absolutely no. Stop watching trash, there is so much good stuff!
