He’s just a dude doing a job who finds himself in way over his head and is doing his best to handle a situation he does not have the training, preparation, or equipment for.
I think a really underrated aspect of Alien is that the Nostromo crew are co-workers. The thing pulls that vibe off well too. No one onboard have that close of a relationship, but they have gotten very used to operating together to accomplish a task. He still broke quarantine which is suuuuch a middle management move. My chef is pretty similar really. I might float the concept of what if we were on the Nostromo at work tomorrow. Seems like that has good riff potential
The way they bring up labour issues…

He’s half the bosses I’ve ever had: not evil or an asshole, but having significant blind spots that end up making things worse despite his best intentions.
I could totally imagine meeting someone like Dallas in real life, and that’s exactly why I like him.

I really need to watch the original movies, seeing as how I consider myself a fan of the Alien franchise.
Being a fan of the Alien franchise and not having seen Alien is mind boggling to me. I absolutely LOVE Alien, one of my all time favorite movies, easy. I like the second a lot, 3 has a great movie inside of it. The rest are pretty bad imo. What have you seen Alien wise?
ohhhh it’s SO GOOD
Every Alien movie is just chasing that dragon, I’m telling you. Aliens is also great. Make sure you get Aliens Special Edition
The first and second are very well worth it, the original probably being one of my favorite movies.
Out of curiosity, which ones have you seen?
The original Alien is one of my all-time favorite movies. The setting is evocative, the crew is memorable and grounded, and it perfectly executes escalating horror. Dallas is just a really realistic manager-type character, you hit the nail on the head. No Han Solo, no Gurney, he’s just a dude in a situation nobody ever expected on the way back from a mining run.
