Just saw it last night, it’s the only Woody Allen film I’ve ever seen. What an incredibly discomforting movie, extremely unnerving. The protagonist is nauseatingly obnoxious and evil, and I don’t know how much of it’s because of the actor deliberating and dry portrayal. I haven’t completely processed this movie. It has a lot to say about class but seemingly from an anti-prole lens. Am I wrong?
i haven’t seen it, but i tend to sidestep woody allen films as there’s always this air of smug, urbane nihilism in the ones i’ve seen.
like, if i am gonna watch something and become upset, i’d rather it be a mule kick to the groin by an angry person rather than a bunch of nebbish flicks to the groin by a sadist.
i dunno if that makes sense, but it’s my pre-loaded emotional interpretation of navigating woody allen stories.
I honestly had no idea his movies were this uncontrollably morbid
