I found myself indirectly involved with anti-migrant sentiment in Guatemala. Basically one of my old cars got stolen by a guy and used to kill an old man. The entire town spread a rumor that it was a migrant from El Salvador making his way to America and a lynch mob was formed. Then it was revealed that the guy who did it was a local repeat offender who last got arrested for beating up his girlfriend.
Police and a military official showed up at my place and interrogated me for four hours, one in person and the other through phone. It was mind-numbing to go through the same line of questioning over and over.
I wasn’t even aware the issue had gained much traction outside of my town until I saw it mentioned in a Facebook post about how violent the migrants are with lots of likes. This was in a group that covers the entire department (state, province, etc.) that I live in.

I’ve been thinking on whether or not I should start limiting myself to c/em_poc and c/mutual_aid again, and I’ve been increasingly feeling like it’s only right that I do so.
Interacting with white leftist ignorance is just too much of a chore and a toll on my mental health that I currently do not need right now. Hexbear isn’t immune to it. In fact, I feel like too many crackers on this site are blinded by the “I’m one of the good ones” mentality to a point that they’d never take a step back in their life to sit and wonder if there’s any way they can stop being so fucking upsetting to their EMPOC comrades.
Like I said in this comment,, white Hexbears are not some heightened level of better or less performative than your typical white leftist you’ll find anywhere else.
I’ve been being more and more diligent with the job search and even went about ways of thinking outside the box to see if I can have a more solid chance at landing a gig. Once I actually get a job in the capacity to care for myself, the pattern will stay the same: I will only use this site for c/em_poc and c/mutual_aid, but in this case, I hope I can start using the latter more as a donor than a recipient. Unfortunately, the trans clinic job did not accept me.
It’s really sad for me to sit here and reflect on the fact that, though I’m a newish user, I’ve heard of many past incidences of EMPOC Hexbears leaving this site because of this shit. His works were part of what was used to argue against a single healthcare system. Teddy Roosevelt at a critical time was promoting social healthcare and Hoffman stepped in to oppose it. The insurance company he work with were critical in what stopped the idea of single healthcare system proliferating.
