there’s usually a small secondary hose to manually drain from the lowest point.
imo it’d be overkill to drain it like that every time, pretty sure you’d only do that before servicing it.
but my qualifications are that I let the machine fully clog before I realised there was a filter to clean, so I’m probably not an authority on the subject.

When I moved in we had a tech come out to fix something and she said once a month is recommended. Can prevent stinky clothes.
unscented detergent also prevents stinky clothes
That explains it, I’ve been using the stinky detergent the whole time.
