For this Friday Movie Night, first up is Sentimental Value (2025), a Norwegian dramedy about an aging filmmaker (Stellan Skarsgard) who reunites with his estranged daughters to offer one of them a role in his comeback film. When she refuses, he gives it to an upcoming young starlet instead, and jealousy quickly ensues, along with some darkly-humorous antics. Director Joachim Trier also did the thirty-something ennui drama The Worst Person in the World (2021), which we previously watched. This received rave reviews following its debut at Cannes earlier this year, and is likely to be nominated for a few Oscars, so let’s check it out.

After that is Remember the Night (1940), a Christmas rom-com about a woman (Barbra Stanwyck) busted for shoplifting during the holiday season; her lawyer (Fred MacMurray) arrives to defend her, and since she would be forced to stay in jail over Christmas while awaiting trial, he decides to take her home. Romance blossoms with there, along with the usual screwball comedy stuff. Will he manage to secure her acquittal, or are they doomed to be torn apart by the legal system? I guess we’ll find out. Director Mitchell Leisen is otherwise best-known for the similar Midnight (1939), and writer Preston Sturges penned (and directed) numerous rom-coms, such as Sullivan’s Travels (1941) and The Lady Eve (1941), the latter of which we previously watched.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
