Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Totalitarians, fascists and other scary governments prosecute you without telling you what you did, and everybody agrees that this is an evil practice. But now it's normal and accepted on social media
01·1 year agoActually, censorship is the #1 form of prosecution for scary governments.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Shitposting as public pedagogyEnglish
1·1 year agoThere’s a lot to disapprove of about the whole of popular thought, modern norms, science even. Shitposting can be an expression of that disapproval. And no, you can’t just frame it as a rational argument. That would be like explaining 3D to a flatlander. All you can do is shit and howl.
Not saying all shitposts are an example of this, but give them the benefit of the doubt.
(Imagine homeless Neo, roaming the sidewalks of a city, yelling at pedestrians, “You’re all trapped in The Matrix!”)
The moderators have the power therefor when they do something rude it actually isn’t rude. In fact you are rude for suggesting that they are being rude, and deserve punishment.
It’s funny how power works.

Most of us never say anything interesting enough to censor.
Most of the censoring is mob dogpiling.
But ya, I hate it.
And even if you don’t get censored, look at who you’re talking to. You’re trying to reach the 1 smart person in 1000.
What we need is the 1990s internet. A collection of niche communities. And the 99% stays way over there in facebookland or whatever they had back then.
