Well, I was never really thinking about this. But when I look back now, I’d say my dad. I feel like there won’t be many like this here on fediverse, because whenever I stumble upon family related topic it looks like nearly everyone here comes from dysfunctional families. I’m really glad I have parents that were caring, but also firm when needed, that shaped me to become normal (I hope so) functioning person.

What are you people doing with your PCs? I don’t mean it rude, I’m just curious. I admit I’m just regular home PC user, playing games, watching videos, doing some lame audio editing, nothing too serious. I just installed opensuse with btrfs some 4-5 years ago and never had single FS related problem since then. On the other hand it saved my ass multiple times either when I fucked something up or couple times when certain OS update didn’t work well with my PC.

I’m not saying it’s bulletproof, shit happens all the time, it’s just… Maybe I’m lucky? Just a fun fact: My PC at work with windows had way more problems (including filesystem ones) than I’ve had at home during said time.

Voyager on android, which is kind of beta-ish, but works good enough. And default web UI which I really like on desktop PC. The only feature I miss in Voyager so far is that “aggregated” threads on desktop, which is an awesome feature.

Those fines are always pocket money for these companies. Until it’s % of revenue based, it’s destined to be a joke.

Can you imagine Apple break down in foreseeable future? Because I can not.

Official Remaster is meh, so I hope this will be the “remaster” everyone wants.

I’m also very much interested in Skywind. Even more than this one, as Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all times.

Amazing list. I personally would add couple games, that defined my “gaming hobby”:

• XCOM/UFO: Enemy Unknown - not sure how this fits in the list, but it was ground breaking for me: perfect blend of micro- and macro management, strategical decisions, tactical battles, what a great game and so much memories of it (and I’d put honorable mention of Jagged Alliance 1&2 here, 'cause they are very similar concept)
• Civilization - genius idea, one of the 4X pioneers, easy to pick up, hard to master, and so much replay value; its overall depth is quite a feat, especially given it’s from 1991, no wonder the franchise is still alive and well now
• Fallout - esp. 1 & 2 might not be the best gameplay-wise, but their world building, characters and atmosphere are excellent… and everyone knows the legendary intro “War, war never changes…”
• Planescape: Torment - similar to above, amazing world, unbelievable story, one of a kind game
• Gothic - mainly 1&2 were simply awesome, there are no barriers (ahem), the world is your to explore, but it’s deadly so you have to plan your progress, nothing is streamlined for you; I can’t remember different game with such a vibe (other than piranha bytes later production)
• VtM: Bloodlines - kind of similar to Deus Ex, but also taking from the table top; and in my book it has THE best atmosphere of all the games I’ve played
• Witcher - this might be just European thing, but playing especially W1 felt kind of like folklore fairy tale from childhood turned into pretty grim adult game
• Disco Elysium - this is probably the only “sort of new” game that I’ve played and which definitely deserves a place in the list, great characters, amazing story and writing

The reason it was such a hit at the time was mainly its visuals, IMO. Story might be predictable and shallow, but you can’t deny it looks beautiful. All the colorful jungle, alien species, green mountain peaks and needle rocks, it’s all just very pleasant to look at. What also helped it being directed by big Hollywood name.

I looks great, not going to lie.

But…

This is more of a general question. I don’t get why people are attracted to horror games (or movies). As a working father and husband with couple non-gaming hobbies, my computer time is limited and I only get to gaming late(ish) in the evening before bed time. With all the shit that today world offers IRL, playing stressful horror game isn’t something I’d want. I’d much rather relax play something with simple mechanics or with very simple premise behind it, like e.g. wolfenstein: nazis are bad, you are good, shoot all the nazis, the end. It’s just… my mind can’t comprehend this. Who plays these games?

I believe you can persuade boss of Arcanum (amazing game) to commit suicide.

But man, it looked so promising… Well, probably time to look at Grim Dawn DLCs instead.

Is it time to cross it from my wishlist already?

I’ve had it once. It felt like it take forever to cook. Never bought it after that.

For every such indie dev who can do this like it’s nothing, I bet Ubisoft will find 1000 reasons why they can’t…
