Holy shit imagine thinking “shifting budgets from textbooks to YouTube subscriptions” isn’t dystopian as fuck as you write it
This isn’t new even in the computing world. In the 1990s Apple had huge donations to primary schools and large discounts to college students for years gaining a couple of generations of customers.
Remember these?

Hopefully all the chromebooks in school will push the kids to Linux and not just chromeOS.
Getting them when they’re young is a play out of religion’s handbook. (The double entendre wasn’t intended)
The same tactic as tobacco companies and drug dealers! Go with what works, I guess.
