just been voraciously reading Sisters of Dorley Hall to get through the holiday blues this week. it’s going to be so rough when i catch up to the point the story is at now. as a preemptive measure, anyone got any more trans books(fiction, nonfiction, theory all okay) that i should plan for next?

In addition to everything else Alyson Greaves has written,

Fiction (literary): Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters - two and a half women decide whether to have a baby together

Little Fish by Casey Plett - Canadian trans woman thinks her grandparent may have been trans

Fiction (eggfic): To Own The Libs by Zoe Storm - Egg from a conservative family transitions, to prove anyone could do it

Fiction (smut): Nexus Alpha by Ela Bambust - lesbians and mechs

Nonfiction: I haven’t read much trans nonfiction but two books that seem to keep popping up are Whipping Girl by Julia Serano and Trans/Rad/Fem by Talia Bhatt.

I will say that these recommendations are largely focused on trans women; if you’re interested in a transmasculine perspective that isn’t something I can provide. Perhaps someone else can?

I dunno why trans fiction written by trans people ostensibly for a trans audience has to be so sad 😞 Manhunt was a downer too. Being trans to me is the best thing that ever happened to me, more euphoria than dysphoria, but our fiction (Detransition, Baby, Manhunt, Nevada Tell Me I’m Worthless, etc) really doesn’t represent that at all

I thought Cuckoo was better overall, ending is kinda of bittersweet but in a things will be better for the next generation because of us, etc.

When You Fell From Heaven by Alyson Greaves is meant to be very upbeat. Basically a trans girl moves to a small town and everyone is supportive.

Its fair that like “everything was good and got better” probably isnt the most exciting story BUT transition is like the Heros Journey. The big booktok trans-lit stuff tends to freeze right before the hero returns having transformed with riches or whatever for their whole family and village, like the best part of the whole trials and tribulations the hero had to go through.

i have read detransition, baby and whipping girl, and there is such a dearth of transmasculine narrative perspectives out there. i am a rather masc/butch nb transfem, and stone butch blues hit me harder than most any transfeminine perspective so far, just because leslie’s perspective and experience resonated with me so strongly.

i will definitely be checking out the other recommendations. thank you so much!
