In the New World, they wanted to erect a New Jerusalem that would not only be religiously devout but be built on a new foundation of communal sharing and social altruism. Their goal was the communism of Plato’s Republic

Because of the disincentives and resentments that spread among the population, crops were sparse and the rationed equal shares from the collective harvest were not enough to ward off starvation and death. Two years of communism in practice left alive only a fraction of the original number of the Plymouth colonists.
Unironically doing “communism is when no food.”
In the wilderness of the New World, the Plymouth Pilgrims progressed from the false dream of communism to the sound realism of capitalism. At a time of economic uncertainty and growing political paternalism, it is worthwhile recalling this beginning of the American experiment and experience with economic freedom.
This is the lesson of the First Thanksgiving. This year, when we, Americans sit around our dining table with family and friends, we should also remember that what we are really celebrating is the birth of free men and free enterprise in that New World of America.
The true meaning of Thanksgiving, in other words, is the triumph of Capitalism over the failure of Collectivism in all its forms.
I thought that was the true meaning of Christmas?
The women now went willingly into the field, and took their little-ones with them to set corn, which before would allege weakness, and inability; whom to have compelled would have been thought great tyranny and oppression.
“Hooray for the bounty of forced labor!!”Also, not even a nod to the help from the native populations

I was honestly expecting the piece to be mostly about how the settlers shared the revelation of free market economics with the benighted native commies, who almost ruined the first Thanksgiving with their demands to share things.
I need to see this story as a piece of truly awful Cold War era pulp fiction, now. Except that the commies win, because that’s my favourite twist on that kind of Cold War garbage.
How communism is about to ruin my Thanksgiving: me not keeping my mouth shut around my CHUD family
Yeah. I was just gonna say, communism ruins my family gatherings every year! I bring my teddy bear with me to my chud relatives’ gathering place, and this sectarian cuddle bug can’t ever bloody shut up.

He’s lucky he’s hug shaped.
OMG I’m right there with you, especially after reading through the table here:

And seething over my cat.
FEE is a very effective website for engaging in self-harm. Want to look at some libertarian rap battles, next? The American Institute for Economic Research (a media mill that I think has been rebranded) has you covered.

i… yes i do
The entity that I just mentioned has done three, Marx versus Mises, and then two of Keynes vs Hayek. You can readily find several uploads on whatever ethical Youtube mirror you prefer.
As someone else who has a morbid fascination with this sort of thing, let me know what you think of them. The roughest one is definitely Keynes/Hayek 1, which is just an abomination even on mute. I know they crowdfunded the Marx/Mises one, but idk about the others.

ahhh just watched it (well i made it ¾ of the way haha) as a self styled cringe conniseur it’s deliciously decadent. i’ll go watch more when i recover from this one. thanks for the heads up.
Did an actual baby write this?
This is like a WKYK sketch
Oh I remembered torturing myself watching their videos
There was one where they said “Jurassic Park proves socialism doesn’t work” - why - because something something capitalist resource allocation by InGen owner John Hammond wouldn’t pay Dennis Nedry in time.
You see, communism doesn’t work because the settlers were unable to grow enough food due to a ‘lack of incentives’ (You would think not dying would be a good incentive but what do I know?). It is only due to capitalism that they were able to survive, and not you know the fact that enough of them died for the land to be able to support them with the level of farming they had, which we know was incredibly lacking because native groups were able to support larger populations and subsequent efforts yielded better results.

And that’s only one of the joint stock companies that funded this expedition and now the settlers owe their asses to them
And I think they got it the wrong way, the settlers weren’t starving cuz they imposed ‘socialism’ or whatever system they call it, they imposed the system cuz they were starving, so they turned it to the new best thing, especially when initially the investment and trade with settler colonies was meager.
Besides, they went into some relatively unfamiliar land, with not much property, let alone suitable ones to adapt their livelihood in there, unprepared for local conditions of weather and viruses + bacteria, what do you think was gonna happen?
Jamestown struggled beforehand initially, why not Plymouth
Well, that and the First Nations lived well there, bring communal and all there, on crops
