TDSB spokesperson Emma Moynihan told the Star that the school has since determined there was no need to cover the photo, as students are “permitted to wear cultural attire in school.” The TDSB did not say who made the decision to cover the photo. The yearbook will be reprinted for those who want one, Moynihan said. When asked why the principal had told students the sticker had been a misprint, Moynihan maintained that the board’s statement was accurate.
Fucking liars, unbelievable. It’s so plain to see too, just a painfully shit attempt at censorship and obfuscation.
Reprint them all, not just a few requested, this is disgusting.
that measure was asking for the Streisand Effect
It’s funny, because the term refers to Streisand’s effort to censor photos of her Beachside mega mansion, highlighted as a contributor to a major problem of beach erosion.
Now, everyone remembers the “effect” of the censorship backfiring. But nobody seems to care about the environmental reforms the photo was intended to champion.
I wonder if this story will raise the question of why these students were being censored to begin with and what the keffieyah stands for.
What shitty administration.
I worry about the implications for Sage and all the students who will return when they go back for next year, a vindictive administration could make life very hard for them. That makes it all the more impressive that they stood up against this sort of behaviour.
This kind of shit needs to start being considered as heinous as antisemitic shit. And that’s only partly because this kind of shit actually lays the groundwork for antisemitism.
Well that’s wild, and likely illegal.
Cant discriminate like that…
Can’t read it because of paywall. But really fucked up. Edit: Nevermind, you linked the free version, thanks lol
Can’t believe people in a country willfully complicit in a genocide would do this.
