No college degree. Massive gap in my resume (years). FUCKING TRANSGENDER. Fucking beginning of my transition, I look awful, I sound awful, and I have no actual reason for someone to hire me. My CIS friends with NO GAPS, STUDYING are getting turned down for retail jobs. Jobs at car washes. WHAT FUCKING HOPE DO I HAVE?? And I’m moving so I have to quit at my current job. I’ll have good references, my previous employers have all loved me, and I technically have a bit of a nicer position for my resume now but still. I’m fucking cooked. And I desperately need a job bc no SO and I need to move out. Parents are going to be unbearable when I have to come out.
Massive gap in my resume (years)
I have to quit at my current job
Imo the gap shouldn’t be a problem. If anyone asks say you were taking care of your terminally ill grandma. It was cancer, she’s dead now, you don’t want to talk about it. Most likely you won’t get that far.
this but say aunt so that your boss thinks you have all 4 grandparents left and you can use more bereavement days if you get them
A bit late, but all the shipping companies (UPS, FedEx, US Post) hire like crazy for the Christmas rush to have someone man the conveyor belts & keep the packages moving. They usually don’t have to downsize come January either, as most of the folks who hire on aren’t physically able to keep up. So, if you’re young-ish and are taking care of yourself physically, I’d try there.
Failing that, I know a trans friend who had luck cleaning houses with some of the rent-a-maid chain services. Apparently they aren’t picky, so long as you know not to steal from the customers and can speak passable English.
See if you can find a mutual aid org where you’re moving to? They might be able to help financially in the short term, plus helping out and meeting folks might get you a job.
I’ll check, I’m sure there will be something. I hate to take money when I’m capable of working and my family hasn’t kicked me out yet. But I should look into it.
nepotism
I might, my dad works in kinda a chud dominated industry but it might be worth trying.
good luck

I have a 15 year gap and despite trying various explanations for that gap, I don’t seem to get considered for anything. Tried putting that I ran my own business, and tried saying I was primary caregiver to my child. I even applied to a nonprofit that helps people with mental illness and gave the honest answer that I wasn’t working because of my own mental illness. Even retail jobs that seem to actually be hiring never give me a call back.
I’ve been doing gigwork which is working pretty good for me, but I fear it’s only making my problem worse in the long run because it’s not really a job, so my gap is getting longer.
Firm handshake. Gumption. Winning smile.
Im transgender and work in a kitchen, if anyone is hiring in your area you could start there, it can be a high stress environment but so is being trans. Apply for prep cook/dishwasher jobs and you’ll eventually be able to work on the line.
If you get there and find out people are phobic or whatever you can just bounce. Theres always more kitchens, and every one is going to have different vibes.
The pay is shit and you lose nights and weekends but you never have to talk to customers
You should definitely lie about that resume gap, comrade. Make it something plausible and hard to check and/or get a friend to act as your reference verifier.
I don’t know what to say though. When I went back to this job I put health issues, which is true I’ve been dealing with a lot of mental health stuff. But idk what to say that won’t get me caught up in it.
"During those years, I was suffering from a debilitating chronic illness that left me nearly bedridden and unable to work.
Luckily, all those years honed and sharpened my pure love for generating shareholder returns! This is a rare opportunity for you as an employer to harvest my fresh unbridled enthusiasm as I dive back into the workforce!"
Depends on where you’re moving to really. If you have relevant experience and good references, just keep applying until you can get into interviews. There’s still a ton of remote work available for CS and CIS positions if that’s what you’re looking for.
If the company seems to be very pro AI, just slap a bunch of GPT glazing in your cover letter.
I know a lot of trans and queer people who have migrated to my location and found employment. A lot of it is low-wage, but it’s still enough to stay afloat here.

Lie about being in the military, they won’t check, make the MOS vaguely match up with whatever job you’re applying for
Sorry, but don’t do this lol. This lie will catch up to her eventually and she will have to keep this in mind during all work interactions. It would add so much stress. Any time a troop is hired or around, it will have the potential to be brought up.
