“Refusing to do dumb shit reeks of privilege because there are people who can’t afford to refuse to do dumb shit” is a take right along with “curing cancer is unfair to people who already died of cancer”.
My guy, there are people who have jobs they HAVE TO keep, relations that they HAVE TO maintain, otherwise they find themselves out on the fucking street. That’s what I’m talking about. Not everyone has their life in a state where they can just flat out say “FUCK YOU” to whoever they want. Being able to say “FUCK YOU” to whoever they want is a privilage.
It’s telling that you just assume none of us have ever willingly ended up on the street over our aherence to personal conviction. That we’ve only ever been the only person we can be in select positions of privledge and never suffered severe consequences for it.
It’s the assumption made by the kind of cowards who then chastise me as being irresponsible for having the courage to repeatedly face down those exact consequences.
“YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!! I NEEDED THE MONEY!! THAT’S WHY I HAD TO WORK AS A GUARD AT THE CONCENTRATION CAMP!! MY FAMILY WOULD HAVE STARVED LIKE THE PRISONERS!! NOOOO!!”
same shit, different degree. Having morals and principles means facing consequences and sometimes people don’t want to face those consequences, so they do away with their morals. They had to do it, don’t you see?
