I don’t stream from any paid services, but sometimes streaming
is more convenient than torrenting.YouTube and Tankie.Tube are streaming services, btw.
https://fmhy.pages.dev/ is a must have if you want to stream
Yeah I really like streaming and direct download piracy sites. I don’t need to mess around with a torrent client and vpn and making sure to seed and wtf why did it stop seeding randomly ugh and so on.
I stream nothing
I collect physical media
The only two options.
I just don’t really watch TV

We do movie night every couple of weeks. Um… that’s it. TV series are really long, I just feel inclined to do other things with my time.
The other option is not TV, it’s piracy.
I read fanfic, and I am happy

you know any good socialist fanfics (i am desperate its 1000x easier to stumble upon outright fascist shit on fanfic sites than anything actually socialist.)
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/HarryPotterBecomesACommunist
Several arousing females with sensual bodies of feminine shapes were staring at my manly chest of comradely hair, but I didn’t pay any attention to that because the revolution was more important.
“Oh, is that all?” laughed Quirrel sardonically in a sardonic voice. “I think you’re just as much of a white savior as I am.”
“False consciousness is when people think communism is bad. Since communism is good, it means they’re obviously insane.”
CWs in spoiler.
A lot of things. Contains racial slurs, sexual assault, and ableism.
It’s a parody of classic bad fanfiction.
yeah ive heard of it, i’d rather read something actually socialist though.
Me too, let me know if you get any recommendations.
Although there’s so many specific brainworms in “Harry Potter Becomes a Communist” that I think the author might actually have been some sort of socialist.

actual communist harry potter series. not finished unfortunately
let’s go let’s go let’s go
LET’S
FUCKING
GO

Thanks, comrade! It’s been a while since I’ve read potterslop, but maybe I’ll give this a try.

Veronica is so cool. I love her videos.
I really want to build a home server but the price of computer bits went nuts in the past few years. Though if anyone knows where I can get a bunch of storage for cheap, let me know. Trying to get 40+TB with full redundancy.
you don’t need-need redundancy on media from torrents, just back up torrent files themselves, it will rebuild itself if worst come to worst. also 40tb is a lot, you planning storing lots of photos as well?

There are definitely torrents I downloaded at one point that went dead, so this doesn’t always work
I already have over 20TB of stuff and yeah, I want to self-host my photos and videos instead of using google like I currently do.
Until the internet goes out forever
Yea drive prices especially have gone up a lot. goharddrive or serverpartdeals (both on ebay or their own sites, have bought from the later with no issue) both sell used enterprise drives for good prices though. There are periodic sales as well, black friday is usually good. Like seagate recently had some 24tb drives on sale for like 260 each. datahoarder on reddit usually has sale posts although idk if you use reddit much.
the comments will be littered with folks offering opinions on what codecs to use
Uncompressed remux gang

Because hard drives are always getting cheaper, and the file will serve as a perfect archive of the disc forever. As good as having it on your shelf. It’s how I would rip and store BluRays I physically rented back in the day.
It also takes way less time because there’s no encoding happening
physical media is terrible to hoard. what happens if there is a flood or earthquake??
That’s why you rip it
Is there a program (or suite) available on Linux that makes it as easy as possible to rip physical discs? I’m dreaming of a process where I just pop in a disc and it spits out a file, and I don’t have to fuck with shell scripts or manually triggering anything
Yes, one tool I know of is: https://github.com/automatic-ripping-machine/automatic-ripping-machine/
Its a system you can run that let’s you simply put a disk in and automatically rip and organize it.
This looks exactly like what I wanted, tysm!
After reading some more, this is nearly bang on what I was looking for. Love that it auto-detects the media type (audio/video/data). I have a lil docker app server already, hopefully it plays nice with my external disc reader. Thanks again!
Sure thing! I haven’t tested it myself, and I think there are addons or extensions or things-built-on-top-of-this that attempt to give you a nice web interface for managing what is being ripped and how it’s being named and cataloged, but last I saw (months ago), it wasn’t perfect and still required some babysitting.
